It’s September already! After today, we’re 14 weeks in with only 8 to go. The last of the propagation seeds have been sown, and we’ve only about 3 more weeks of planting in the field. Fall crops are successfully in; we’ve got another round of broccolini, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, and kale coming. As tomatoes and peppers start to wane, radishes and turnips will start making their fall appearances, as will leeks, potatoes, and the full heads of celery. We planted our first-ever crops in the “backfield” this summer - 4 varieties of winter squash - and the plants are looking great with some developing fruits.

It’s that time of year when the humidity is at an all time high, the grass is soaking wet every morning, and exhaustion is beginning to set in. Our favorite time to start planning for next year is during this time. We like it because 1) seed orders are right around the corner, 2) we like to have our crew staffed and prepared well in advance, and 3) its a great time not to plan for more than we can handle. During the winter, the workload is low and the ambition is high. Imaginations can run wild with possibilities of the next season, and often, we let our imaginations get the best of us, excitedly planning new projects. But when it’s busy, hot, and we’re more likely to become cranky, it’s the perfect time for remembering how we felt about the plans we made last year.

That said, we planned for an amazing 2026 season, and it has been just that. The crew was incredible; we stuck to our hours, we eventually got caught up with the things that got pushed to the bottom of the to-do list, and everyone rallied when it was necessary. The farm dinner series was the newest addition to our 2026 plan, and we’re learning more each dinner and how to navigate the added workload while still enjoying it.

Stay tuned for our plans for 2027! Much too wordy to add to this newsletter, but we will share soon!
