ORGANIZATION: wisconsin Farmers union - WI farmers collective
Over the past year, Sam has been working hard alongside the Wi Farmers Union, Hunger Task Force and Fondy Food Center to form the WI Farmer Collective. The Collective launches this fall, ready to begin crop planning and growing for the 2027 season. For the first phase, the Collective will organize 15 to 20 farms to cooperatively grow for and sell from shared farmers market stands throughout the MKE area. Rather than each farm bringing a full assortment of products to market, participating farms collaborate to each specialize in the one to three crops that best reflect their farms need and abilities, while meeting not only the markets demands, but more importantly fulfilling the communities needs. This approach allows farmers to focus on what they do best; growing high-quality food, while the SEWI Collective staff handles coordination, sales, and logistics.
During the dinner, Sam will - briefly - speak more about the Collective and provide participants the opportunity the ask questions and offer their ideas. 50% of all ticket sales will go to the Collective, while the remaining sales amount will go towards Village Farmstead’s dinner expenses, primarily staffing and the ingredients we don’t produce on-farm.
